In Tides, a 2002 group exhibition at Counihan Gallery, George Alamidis presented fabricated ID cards and larges scale canvases that explored themes of identity, migration, and belonging. Responding to the show’s focus on Indigenous and migrant perspectives in Australia, Alamidis created fictional personas from manipulated studio materials and personal imagery, turning bureaucratic forms into poetic meditations on memory and displacement. His layered canvases echoed these themes, combining fragments of history and self in a visual language shaped by loss, movement, and imagined origins.
